Tiny Tots
Children must be two years old.
This inter-active creative movement class is designed to allow parents to assist the very youngest movers through their first dance class experience!
This dance class incorporates basic coordination exercises, pre-ballet, music appreciation and flexibilty exercises. A parent and child interaction allows children to feel comfortable in a structured classroom atmosphere and prepares them for pre-school and kinderdance classes in the future.
Pre-Ballet
(ages 3-5) These special classes for pre school children develop a broad range of dance and movement skills incorporating the following components: music awareness, play using creative imagination, and dance focusing on body awareness, flexibility, posture, and poise. The class leads the students naturally into the further study of ballet and other forms of dance.
R.A.D. Ballet
Ballet is the basis for all dance programs and all children entering dance are encouraged to participate in this program. Ballet is a physical art form that teaches musical awareness, body coordination, mental quickness, personal confidence, and self discipline. The Royal academy of Dance Syllabus (R.A.D) is offered from Pre Primary to Advanced levels. Students may be entered for examinations at the discretion of the Instructor. Exam candidates and competitive students are required to attend a minimum of two ballet classes per week starting at the grade two level. Exams also require additional fees and extra rehearsals. While set work will be emphasized in grade work, a portion of the lesson will be devoted to the development of the students' creative ability and musicality.
Non-Exam Ballet
(teen ballet) For those students who wish to take ballet once a week these classes are designed for students who are beginners or starting later with their training, and want a basic understanding of ballet. These classes help to improve a students dance technique in a non competitive atmosphere and gives the student an understanding of placement, posture a sense of line and musicality and builds their self confidence. These are non exam classes and non competitive.
Pointe Ballet
This once a week technique class is an introductory to pointe work for those students who are just beginners or are not ready for advanced technique. Students are taught the basic knowledge of point work at the barre and center, caring for their shoes and proper fittings. This class is open to all students taking ballet from grade five and up including Teen Ballet from 12 and up at the discretion of the Instructor. Pointe Ballet level two/three is offered for older students with advanced pointe training.
C.D.T.A. Jazz
High energy classes set to contemporary music offers children and teens and exciting way to enjoy the benefits and discipline of dance training. The varying styles of jazz will be integrated at the discretion of the faculty member. Jazz students must be registered in the R.A.D. Ballet classes twice a week starting at the grade two level and for those students wishing to take jazz exams must take jazz twice a week starting at the grade five level. These classes are designed to be for serious and competitive students.
Non-Exam Jazz and Hip Hop
Jazz and Hip Hop classes are both high energy dance forms which incorporate elements of ballet, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, modern and partner work. These classes are broken down to include a warm up, cross floor work and technique, ending with choreography set to contemporary music. These classes are non exam, non competitive classes and are designed for the once a week student with some or no ballet technique.
Tap
Tap combines the rhythms or footwork with the elements of other forms of dance. From the days of Gene Kelly to present day, tap has been woven into many forms of entertainment. We have non competitive and competitive classes offered for all students. For all competitive classes, students must be registered in the R.A.D. ballet classes.
Modern
New to the school this season. Contemporary dance movement based on ballet technique. These classes are offered for students registered in ballet from grade four up to senior level. Students who are interested in taking these classes must first discuss this with their instructors to make certain they are ready for this type of dance.
Company
Company classes are designed for those students who are wanting additional experience in festival, community performances and out of town workshops and events. Students who are eligible and show an understanding of performance quality are invited to take part in company classes. Students must be registered in competitive classes to be eligible.
