RAD Notices:

For those students participating in the RAD Ballet examinations, all extra lesson and mock exam notices have been sent out. Please refer to your notice in regards to the extra lessons that are happening this Saturday, April 14th and Saturday, April 21st.   Extra lessons and mock exam fees are due by this Friday, April 13th.

 

PAEC Notices:

For those students participating in PAEC Tap and Jazz examinations, extra lessons and mock exam notices will start to go out this week. Please look for these to come home. Exams are set for May 6th with the mock exam on May 4th.

 

Nanaimo Festival

Congratulations to the following groups who have been selected to participate in the Upper Island Dance Gala:

 

Grade Two Ballet – Your Song

Gold Jazz – School

Senior Hip Hop – Glory

 

A tech rehearsal has been set for all of our groups at the Port theatre this Saturday, April 14th from 11:15 – 11:45 am.   Please arrive at the theatre at 11:00 am. Students are to wear their dancewear. Teachers will pick a couple of students in class this week to wear their costumes to the tech rehearsal.   Please arrive at the theatre no later than 6:00 pm – show starts at 7:00 pm. Tickets are now on sale at the Port Theatre for this event.

 

Young Students

This is a gentle reminder that all students under the age of eight are to stay within our building inside our waiting room when classes end. Please do not ask your child to wait for you outside. Teachers will do their best to ensure that all preschoolers will remain in the facility until a parent picks them up. We encourage parents not to be late when picking up their children and to remind them to stay inside the building.

 

Year End Recital

Tempo Dance is please to present “LEGENDS” this year at the Port Theatre.

Our year end recital takes place on Saturday, June 2nd at 1:00 and 7:00 pm.

We will be having our tech rehearsal on the Friday, June 1st at the Port Theatre. We generally start our rehearsal at 3:00 pm.   A follow up package will become available to all students the first week of May with all of the information

pertaining to our show.

All tickets will for this event will go on sale as of Monday, April 16th.

 

Picture Day at the Studio

Our picture day is scheduled for Sunday, May 27th at the studio. A reminder that all students are required to attend picture day whether you are purchasing pictures or not. Please be sure to book this date on your calendar.

 

Summer Schools

Parents have already been enquiring about our summer programs.   The following will take place this season:

 

Tempo Kids Camps

Monday, July 16th to Friday, July 20th. Day programs for all students’ five to twelve can attend these day classes which include Dance, Arts and Crafts and games. More information will be posted in your May package.

 

Summer Syllabus: Junior classes from Grades Two to Five will run from August 13th to 17th. This includes Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern.

 

Summer Syllabus: Intermediate and Senior classes from Grades Pre – elementary, Grade Six, Seven and Senior will run from August 20th to 24th.

We encourage all students to attend syllabus classes and require that all competitive classes to attend. This will include Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern.

 

School Closures

The school will be closed for our second spring break week starting Monday, April 23rd to Sunday, April 29th. All classes will resume on Monday, April 30th. Due to our local festival we were not able to take the allotted two weeks off at spring break time and decided to split the two weeks this year to accommodate that.

The school will be closed for the Easter Holiday from Friday, April 6th to Monday, April 9th. All classes will resume to regular schedule as of Tuesday, April 10th.

Upper Island Dance Festival – Gala is held at the Port Theatre on Saturday, April 14th.  Purchase your tickets early for this event as it generally sells out.  All competitive groups who attend the festival and is chosen by the adjudicators are required to perform at this event.  Please be sure to keep this date availalble for this performance.  Once the groups have been chosen, we will advise the parents by email.  Tickets are now on sale at the Port Theatre for this event.

Welcome back to Dance!   We hope everyone had a relaxing spring break!  We have a very busy two weeks ahead of us.   Please be sure to check your times below that may affect your dancer.  If you are uncertain of anything, please call the office.Due to the Nanaimo Festival, there will be changes in our daily class times as follows: 

Monday March 26

 

All classes will run as scheduled, with the following changes:

 

3:15 – 4:15pm – Level Four Modern (no class at 7:15 – 8:15)

6:00 – 7:00 pm – Level 2/3 Modern combined with Grade Four Ballet

7:15 – 8:30 pm – Gold Lyrical Jazz (no class Wednesday night)

7:00 – 8:15 pm – Pre Elementary Ballet combined with Grade Six A (no class Wednesday)

Costume Pick Up:

 

We will be in the office on Monday from 3:30 – 6:30 for those parents that need to pick up their costumes. Grade Four Tap, will not be available on Monday. We will be fitting dancers on this day and will then proceed with billing. Pick up time for this class will be announced shortly.

 

Second Skins, Foot Undies, Tights:

 

For the following classes we have purchased items that you need for your group:

Senior Ballet, Grade Seven Ballet, Pre-Elementary Ballet – Tights

These items can be picked up at the office on Monday.

Grade Two Ballet – Second skins for those students who find their costumes itchy. We have ordered enough for all of the dancers. Please come by and pick one up on Monday if you would like one.

Second skins and Foot Undies are available for those students who requested these. We ordered a few extra of these for students who would like one as well.

 

 

Upper Island Music Festival

 

Good luck to all our dancers taking part in this local competition!   Dance with your hearts and enjoy your moment on stage!

If you would like to attend the competition, a festival schedule has been posted in the waiting area as well as this week’s class list below.  The Dance Festival is held at Beban Park.  When you are not performing, please show your support and come see your fellow dancers and cheer them on.  Dancer’s are expected to be at their best behaviour at all times.   Please make every effort to show up at the time that was requested by your teachers as all dancers must be checked in accordingly.  Teachers will use their discretion if a child shows up too late whether or not they will be allowed to perform.

What’s happening this week March 12th to 17th

Close to My Heart FundraiserAll orders for this fundraiser is due by this Friday, March 16th. Please be sure to drop off your orders in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on the form.Monday, March 26th

We may be holding special classes on this day for group rehearsals that are performing the first week back into festival. We will keep you posted as to which groups will be rehearsing on this day.

School Closures

We will be closed for Spring Break from Sunday, March 18th to Sunday, March 25th. All classes will resume on Monday, March 26th.

Costume Pick Up

For all festival classes that have received an invoice, our next pick up day will be on Wednesday, March 14th and Friday, March 16th.

Some classes that do not perform until the first week of April will receive their invoices upon our return from spring break. We are still waiting for a couple of boxes to arrive this week.  We will advise by email who these classes are shortly.Costume Notices to Students and Confirmed Schedule

Competion Newsletters

All students received these notices during their Beban Park rehearsal yesterday. If you did not receive one, please come by the office to pick it up. We ask that all parents double check their performance time with the schedule that is posted in the waiting area.

Closer to festival time, we will be posting all groups/solos/duets by email as they perform.  

Tights, Second Skins, Foot Undies

Irene will be placing orders for tights, for some of our ballet groups that are in need of special tights for their costumes. These items can be picked up at the office the first day back from spring break.   Students who would like to order foot undies or second skins please email Irene with your order and size before Wednesday of this week.

What’s happening this week March 5th – March 11th

Dance Camps this Monday to Wednesday

We will be hosting dance camps this week from 8:30 – 2:30 pm.  To sign up for a spot, please call the office at (250) 390-2633.   Cost is $35.00 for the day.  Students will receive two dance classes per day, arts and crafts, games and movie.  Students are to bring their own lunch (no peanuts please), water or juice, blanket and pillow.

 

Close to My Heart Fundraiser

This semester we will be hosting a fundraiser for our year end scholarships.

Upper Island Music Festival

There have been some changes to the Upper Island Dance Festival.  Please be sure to check the program located in the waiting area for changes.  You may also visit the Upper Island Music Festival Home page, for an up to date program.

Students will receive a costume newsletter as well as a program during this Sunday’s Group Stage Rehearsal.

 

Beban Park Stage Rehearsal

For all groups, this rehearsal takes place at Beban Park on Sunday, March 11th starting at 12:00 pm.  Please check your Beban Park Stage Rehearsal for your group time.    All students are required to wear Dancewear which includes bodysuit and tights.  No T-shirts, pants, etc please.  You will be asked to remove these items.  Hair must be in a bun for ballet.   Pony tail for jazz, tap, hip hop.
